FX data quality has several independent dimensions: correct meaning and units, observation freshness, collection reliability, transaction completeness and permission for the intended use. A successful refresh alone does not satisfy them all.

Separate the clocks
Observed_at records the underlying observation time. Collected_at records retrieval. Rendered_at describes a screen or report. These values can be different. A scheduled task may run successfully while retrieving yesterday’s unchanged bulletin; updating a page timestamp does not create a new market observation. The freshness rule should come from the source contract and use case, not from a universal green badge.
Check completeness at the transaction level
For a transfer comparison, require the relevant amount, currencies, funding and payout methods and known fee components. A reference-rate observation has a different completeness definition from a retail quote. Keep a quality reason for each missing or invalid field and let the interface display partial results where they remain useful. Avoid manufacturing a complete-looking record by filling gaps with convenient defaults.
Preserve original observations and derived metrics
Store the provider value separately from any normalised unit or calculated cost. Record the formula and reference used for derived outputs. When a correction arrives, retain enough revision context to explain a changed result. A chart that cannot be reproduced from its source observations is hard to trust, even when its visual presentation is polished.
Make permission part of the release check
Technical access, research use and public redistribution are different decisions. Before a dataset appears on a public page, record the publication basis and review the exact fields being released. Search optimisation must not bypass this check.
