Make the currency dictionary explicit
Use stable currency codes as identifiers and readable names as labels. Keep currency identity separate from origin country and payout location: a currency pair does not fully identify a payment corridor. Store the quote direction and the number of currency units represented. Never rely on display formatting to repair an ambiguous source definition after data have already entered an analytical table.
Normalise the structure, not away the meaning
Two sources can fit the same JSON shape while measuring different things. A published reference, a cash buy rate and a customer transfer quote should have distinct rate_type values. Preserve whether a value is bid, ask, midpoint or otherwise defined by the source. A common schema is useful when it retains the differences that affect interpretation, rather than treating every number with a currency code as equivalent.
Build comparisons around the same question
For a regional research exercise, choose one use case and comparable observation windows. For provider pricing, hold principal, customer eligibility, funding and payout conventions constant. For historical reference analysis, document calendars and missing dates rather than silently filling them with new-looking observations. A GCC overview should identify where comparisons are supported and where source definitions make a like-for-like result unavailable.
Use regional coverage as an evidence inventory
Maintain a matrix showing which currencies and products have reviewed sources, historical observations, usable refresh behaviour and permitted publication. A listed currency is research scope, not proof of a running feed.
